It has been a crazy year and a half for Allison DeVane.
The 20-something decided to go into business for herself bringing a new tea concept to the Valley – concentrated espresso tea shots.
She says it has the same amount of caffeine as coffee, but tastes like tea, and does not have the headaches. She uses it to make espresso-type drinks, such as a lattes, cappuccinos and macchiatos.
She started selling her tea out of a cart in downtown Phoenix. She then created a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, founded her online store and appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank in February.
Weeks after her episode aired, thieves broke into DeSoto Central Market and stole the heart of her business – a proprietary espresso machine. Thankfully it was returned the next day and it was in good shape.
Six months later, DeVane is ready to unveil her latest adventure.
She partnered with Jessica Boutwell, of Ruze Cake House, to open their first brick-and-mortar location in Scottsdale.
“It’s just been an emotional roller coaster and we’re finally here opening our very first store,” said DeVane.
The two are bringing a café-style shop to Scottsdale’s Main Street. DeVane will sell her tea drinks and flavor-infused sugar cubes, while Boutwell will feature gourmet cookies, cupcakes, and pastries.
They’re also planning to host tea parties.
“I think the most exciting part for me is opening the door and seeing someone walk in for the first time as a customer,” she said on Thursday, while giving ABC15 a preview of the space.” I might cry, honestly. It’s just emotional thinking about it because so much work has gone into everything [we’ve] done.”
The shop will be open Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, August 28 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Regular hours will begin August 30 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. They will be closed on Mondays.
As she pushes forward, DeVane is thankful to Shark Tank for the advice she walked away with, rather than a deal.
“Shark Tank is amazing. It was just a great experience. It just did amazing things for me in the business, so many new inquiries, so many new customers. I met just great people in general,” she said.
Good luck, Teaspressa!
