What comes to mind when you think of Phoenix?
Arizona. Desert. Cacti. Mountains. Scorching (read: possibly unlivable) summer temperatures?
Yes. True, but what about our culinary scene?
Phoenix is home to multiple AAA Five and Four Diamond properties and James Beard nominated and award-winning chefs. Arizona has been recognized by Food Network for “standout” tacos, having one the best bars in America, and the state has hosted Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives over three dozen times.
We’re also a big market for Chicago deep-dish pizza (Welcome Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s East and Giordano’s).
Well, Gogobot, a travel app based in California, has named Phoenix a “rising star” foodie destination and added another pin to the map for the U.S.’s sixth largest city.
“Combining creativity and quality, Metro Phoenix surprises with a range of quirky and delicious options,” Gogobot said in its report. “Bottom line: Phoenix is turning into a foodie oasis in the Arizona desert.”
Phoenix was ranked tenth on the list and highlighted Pizzeria Bianco, Taco Guild and True Food Kitchen.
Montreal (Quebec, Canada) and Jersey City (New Jersey) topped the list at first and second, respectfully.
Gogobot said it “takes a number of different factors into account when selecting its winners including reviewing data across the more than 60,000 destinations in its database,” including reviews from its users.
