Scottsdale restaurant Crab & Mermaid has closed.
The seafood restaurant opened its doors off Scottsdale Road in Old Town Scottsdale in 2016. It quietly closed sometime recently, though no official announcement was made on its social channels.
Crab & Mermaid was a recent concept from Square One Concepts, the restaurant group behind Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers and Bourbon and Bones, both of which are located off Scottsdale Road.
"While guests loved the beachy vibes of Crab & Mermaid, the [Square One Concepts] team learned that fans would rather enjoy that vibe at the beach," said Cynthia Dunn, principal at FleurComGroup, the public relations agency that represents Square One Concepts, via email on Tuesday.
The demand just wasn't there, she said.
The development group has gone "back to the drawing board" and plans to introduce a new concept in that space soon. She said the concept does not have a name yet, but will provide a dining experience that fits in between Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers and Bourbon & Bones.
The Phoenix New Times first reported the closure last week.
