PD: Man smashes light rail windows after threats to passengers

A Tempe man uses his skateboard to break windows on a Phoenix Metro Light Rail train.

Court records show that on August 26, light rail employees confronted a man for not paying his fare. Afterwards, he used his skateboard to smash multiple windows on the light rail train.

Police say that 27-year-old Arthur Will Burrell was confronted by light rail employees who were attempting to remove him. Burrell is accused of not paying his fare and acting erratically.

Witnesses say they tried to de-escalate the situation, but Burrell threatened to harm them as well as the employees. 

When the train was at 19th and Dunlap avenues. Burrell allegedly got up from his seat on the platform and used his skateboard to smash five windows on the light rain train.

Police say the cost to repair the damage is estimated at $8,425 

Burrell was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage.
