A teenage girl is accused of attacking another girl in a north Phoenix park in an argument over a boy, according to police.

When the 17-year-old suspect saw the victim at Sweetwater Park near 44th Street and Cactus Road on Monday, she came up to her, striking her in the mouth with a camping hatchet, court documents show.

Police say the suspect believed the victim was dating her boyfriend.

The victim had to be treated for a split upper lip and lost a tooth. She also had a severe cut to her left thigh, officials said.

Witnesses told police that the victim fought back and as they wrestled to the ground, the victim struck the suspect several times in the face with her fists. The boyfriend pulled the victim off the suspect and hit her several times in the face. The suspect and boyfriend then fled the area.

Police went to the suspect's home, where family members told them that the two girls had been arguing over Facebook regarding the boyfriend.

The suspect and the boyfriend were later found. The female suspect has been charged in juvenile court with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.
