Police say an armed store clerk was able to stop a Phoenix robbery before it even began.

Reports show two juveniles entered a 7-11 store on November 8 with the intention to rob it, but they were met by an armed clerk behind the counter.

Police say the clerk noticed a car parked outside the store near 7th Avenue and Indian School, followed by someone exiting the vehicle with his face covered and saw the person holding a handgun.

According to police, the suspect entered the store and pointed the gun at the clerk, only to see that the clerk already had his gun pointed at him.

The suspect with the gun turned and ran out of the store, bumping into another young suspect as he left, police say.

The driver of the vehicle took off, leaving the remaining two suspects chasing after him on foot.

Police were able to arrest the driver, 18-year-old Ramiro Guerrero Baltazar, after he crashed into a street sign while trying to escape. Following a foot pursuit, police also were able to capture the two juvenile suspects and recovered the handgun used in the crime.

Baltazar has been charged with unlawful flight and attempted armed robbery.
