An armed Phoenix father was able to protect his kids from a man with a gun "looking for a ride."

Court records show that on April 15, a father used his gun to diffuse a threat from an armed man who demanded a ride for him and his friends.

Police say a father was in the parking lot of business center near 25th and Dunlap Avenues when he was approached by several men.

Police report that 25-year-old Jacob Tyler Spradlin pulled out handgun and pointed it at the father and demanded a ride for him and his friends.

The father pulled out his own handgun, as he pleaded with Spradlin, telling him he had his children in the car.

No shots were fired as Spradlin and his friends left the area and the father was able to drive away and call police.

Police found Spradlin in another parking lot, just North of Dunlap and east of Interstate 17.

Spradlin, who lives in Freemont Indiana, has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault.
