Mesa police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting and killing his former roommate's girlfriend.
Officers were called to a shooting at an apartment complex near Lindsey and Broadway roads on June 16 where they found an adult woman dead and an adult man injured.
Police say the man was shot three times, in the neck, chest, and thigh. The woman was shot five times, including in the head and upper chest.
Police later located the suspect, 22-year-old Arturo Perez, and detained him for questioning before arresting him for the homicide. Perez and family members claim he was drinking at a relative’s home at the time of the shooting.
The 19-year-old woman has been identified as Unique Aguilera.
Police say the man injured in the shooting was the former roommate of Perez. The injured man's girlfriend, Aguilera, was killed in the shooting.
Investigators believe the shooting was based on disputes and girlfriend issues between Perez and the injured man.
Perez has been booked into jail for second-degree murder and has been given a $750,000 cash bond.
