Is your cellphone 'lying' about signal strength?

Do you ever have a full phone signal, but still can't get online or make a call?

Your phone signal bars could be lying to you.

Right now, there's no standard tying signal strength to the number of bars on your phone.

Each carrier has it's own calculation.

Data Doctors Ken Colburn says there's another way.

It's a free app called "Open Signal."

It measures your signal strength in decibels.

The closer to zero the better.

It also visually shows you nearby cell towers and which one you may be connected to.

Maybe obstructions are blocking your signal.

If you walk a certain way using the app, that signal strength can show an increase.

You can get it in the Google play or the Apple store.

With any "free" app, consumers do give something away.

Many times it's your information.

Just make sure you read all of the fine print before signing up.
