Casa Grande police said its search for a suspect accused of shooting an off-duty officer and another person has ended after the man was found dead on Wednesday afternoon.
In a tweet, Casa Grande police said 37-year-old Juan Pablo Rodriguez-Fregoso was found dead in Mesa. Police said in the tweet that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said two victims were hurt in the shooting, including an officer who was off-duty at the time. That officer was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. Police said the officer is listed in serious condition.
The other person, a citizen who works at the police station, was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Wednesday afternoon, police officers from multiple agencies and the U.S. Marshalls Task Force descended on a vehicle along the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Dobson Road. That is where the suspect was apparently found.
Authorities have not identified the victims.
Several schools in the area were on lockdown as a precaution but that lockdown has since been lifted.
