Three people are dead after a serious crash near Maricopa Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the area of State Route 347 and Casa Blanca Road around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a semi-truck and pick-up truck.
Gila River Police said on Thursday, citing preliminary information, that the pickup truck had four people inside and was traveling southbound on S.R. 347 when the driver lost control and hit the median.
The truck rolled over and spun around and began traveling in reverse in the northbound lanes of the freeway, police said. The semi-truck was unable to avoid it, according to police.
Three people were declared dead at the scene. The deceased were identified as Juanna Molina, 24, Ray Molina, 33, and 18-year-old Dominic Dixon. A fourth person, an unidentified male, was taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
It is not known what caused the pick-up truck to lose control.
