A vehicle fire temporarily closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 17.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the fire started in the cab of a semi hauling furniture. Officials said there were no injuries.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said the fire caused them to close I-17 at Anthem Way, forcing all southbound traffic to exit and enter Anthem.
About 45 minutes later, officials said the left two lanes had reopened to traffic. The right lane remained blocked.
The backup continued to extend for miles even hours after the fire was extinguished, and cleared just before 8 p.m.
