A Scottsdale teacher and track coach was arrested December 8 after an 18-month sexual relationship with a student who was 16 when the relationship began.

Court documents show the girl's friends brought the relationship to the attention of the victim’s mother who contacted Scottsdale police.

Phoenix resident, 37-year-old Christopher Thomas McKenna is a track Coach at Chaparral High School and has been employed by the Scottsdale School District for nine years.

The victim said she met McKenna at a track meet in April of 2014 and their sexual relationship began later that June.

Police allege that most of the sexual activity took place in McKenna’s truck in the back parking lot of various stores near the high school.

The victim told police that they had also been "sexting" back and forth. Police did recover over 2,000 text messages and photos between the two that McKenna had deleted.

He has been placed on paid-administrative leave pending the investigation.

Police do not believe at this time there are any additional victims.

McKenna is facing six counts of sexual conduct with a minor and 10 counts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
