A 17-year-old boy was struck by lightning and killed while hiking in Coconino County, officials said Wednesday.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, a group of teen hikers called 911 to alert them of at least one hiker who was unresponsive after being struck by lightning. The three hikers, all from Tempe, were near the Humphreys Peak summit.

Two other teens, ages 17 and 18, survived the lightning strike but were taken to the Flagstaff Medical Center with injuries. Their conditions were not released.

CCSO says the teen's body was recovered Wednesday evening. Officials have not released the name of the victim.
