Officials are investigating a deadly shooting in Winslow, Arizona.
According to the Department of Public Safety, 27-year-old Loreal Tsingine was involved in an altercation with Winslow Police Department officers at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
DPS said during the altercation, Tsingine threatened officers with a weapon and was shot. She was pronounced dead near Old Highway 66 and 4th Street.
It is unclear what kind of weapon Tsingine had. Police said she fit the description of a shoplifting suspect they were searching for in the area.
The officer who shot Tsingine has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is being investigated by detectives from DPS.
The Winslow Police Department released a press release 24 hours after the shooting occurred. The statement said in part:
“The Winslow Police Dept. wishes to express our deepest sympathies to Miss Tsinginie’s family, the officers and the community of Winslow.”
Winslow is 60 miles east of Flagstaff.
