A California man is awaiting extradition back to Arizona after being accused of murdering his father in Yavapai County.
Last Thursday afternoon, deputies were called to a campsite off Fossil Creek Road, just east of Camp Verde. Deputies said Dale Klettke, 60, of Union City was found dead with apparent head trauma.
A female witness told deputies that she saw the victim the day before with another and man and she may have heard what sounded like gunshots that evening — however she opted to not call authorities, a YCSO spokesperson said.
The next morning, the woman noticed that a silver-colored Jeep Liberty (that was there the day before) was gone, as well as the tent, deputies said. While wandering the campsite, she discovered Klettke's body wrapped in tent-like material.
Detectives searched the campsite and discovered multiple bullet casings and deputies confirmed that the victim was shot multiple times.
The victim’s son, 21-year-old Francis Claude Klettke, was arrested Saturday in Union City and accused of murdering his father.
No additional information was released about the incident.
