A months-long illegal gambling investigation by the Arizona Department of Gaming and Phoenix Police Department is wrapping up with four people behind bars.

On Wednesday afternoon, authorities served a search warrant at a Valley business near Central Avenue and Hatcher Road, as well as at a second location near 15th Avenue and Camelback Road, officials said.

The businesses – which sell electronics and second-hand items – are accused of also operating an illegal gambling business, a state gaming spokesperson said.

According to officials, the businesses are believed to have brought in up to $10,000 a week by allowing customers to play casino-style games in back rooms on computers. The businesses’ owners’ homes were also searched as part of the 17-month investigation.

The four suspects are facing a range of charges, including conducting an illegal criminal enterprise, money laundering and promotion of and benefiting from gambling.

The Department of Gaming said these illegal enterprises attract various types of criminal activity.

Anyone with information about alleged illegal gambling in the state is urged to call the Arizona Department of Gaming at 602-771-4263.
