The Arizona Humane Society says a Miniature Poodle named Charlie is recovering in a foster home after coming to the shelter dirty and covered in hundreds of ticks.
The Humane Society says Charlie was weak and could barely stand from the lack of blood that he had because of the ticks when he was dropped off at the shelter.
Their medical team quickly searched the shelter for a dog that might be a good fit for a transfusion, and settled on a healthy America Pitbull Terrier.
The medical team removed two pounds of matted and tangled hair from Charlie, and gave him the three hour blood transfusion with little time to spare.
After several weeks of recovery with his foster mom Sam Manke, Charlie is now happy and healthy.
He will move from his foster family into his forever home Sunday afternoon according to the Humane Society.
