Even after the recent discovery of Brian Histand's remains in South Mountain Park, Histand's father said questions about his son's death will likely remain unanswered.

Brian disappeared in mid-2013; he was last seen walking south on 35th Avenue toward South Mountain.

Phoenix police said Brian’s remains were identified Monday after being found days earlier. His remains were found in several locations in the southern portion of the park, police said.

Brian's father, Michael Histand, said he might never know how Brian died.

“We were really just hoping that he would show up at home one day,” Michael said.

He believes his son might not have been thinking clearly in the days before his disappearance.

Brian was an avid BMX biker, and suffered repeated head injuries from falls, his father said.

Brian moved to the Valley from Pennsylvania in 2012, his father said.

Police do not suspect foul play in Brian’s death.
