One man was killed Thursday night in a chain-reaction crash on State Route 51 near Northern Avenue.
All the northbound lanes were closed shortly before 8 p.m. while emergency crews responded to the crash. Those lanes reopened before 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
DPS says the eight-car crash happened after one vehicle became disabled in one of the lanes. Other drivers swerved, but a Ford pickup truck struck a small car that was also stopped.
The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Joseph Hleboski of Phoenix.
Other people involved suffered only minor injuries.
UPDATE: The crash at SR 51 NB at Camelback has cleared the roadway. However, SR 51 is still closed at Glendale Ave due to a separate crash.
