PHOENIX — A second-alarm fire that ripped through an abandoned office complex in central Phoenix Friday afternoon sent up heavy smoke over the Valley.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman David Ramirez said firefighters worked to control the blaze near 16th Street and Highland Avenue as it went from a first-alarm fire to a second-alarm fire just after 1:30 p.m.
Phoenix firefighters say when they arrived, large amounts of fire and smoke were seen coming from the second floor.
Firefighters say they were able to use ladder trucks to battle the fire from above and multiple hand lines to battle it from the ground.
ADOT camera video showed a thick plume of white smoke in the area.
