The Phoenix Fire Department says an elderly woman and her two grandchildren were significantly burned Wednesday morning in an RV fire.
When firefighters arrived to the scene near 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road the fire was already out, thanks to a witness who used a garden hose to help control the flames.
The woman and her two grandchildren, however, suffered serious burns.
The woman approached firefighters and told them that she had thrown her grandchildren, four-years-old and two-years-old, out of a window because the flames had trapped them inside.
The woman had second and third degree burns to her face, chest and arms. The two-year-old has severe burns to a large portion of their body and the four-year-old has second and third degree burns.
All three were taken to the Maricopa Medical Center.
