Phoenix police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near 44th Street and Thomas Road.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
According to a Phoenix Police spokeswoman, officers were initially in the area of 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road to perform a traffic stop. However, when officers attempted to pull the suspect over, gunfire was exchanged.
No injuries were reported at the first scene, police said.
The suspect sped away from the scene in a white truck before police were able to disable his car near 44th Street and Thomas Road, authorities said. The suspect allegedly shot at officers who in turn exchanged gunfire.
According to Phoenix police, the alleged shooter was taken down by a police K9 who stopped the threat.
The suspect was shot and is hospitalized, police said. One officer was also shot but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect’s condition has not been released.
