Police say a 78-year-old man was shot and killed inside his home Friday during a home invasion while his wife took cover in another room.
Officers responded to the home near 55th Avenue and Camelback around 3 a.m. and found the man dead.
Police spokesman James Holmes said the wife called police when she heard someone attempting to break into the home. She then heard what she believed to be a gunshot and found her husband in another room.

Holmes called the incident an "absolute tragedy" for the family and said they do not have a lot to go on in terms of identifying a suspect.
The daughter of the victim identified her father as Jess Sixkiller, a former Chicago police officer and a Native American rights activist.
