If Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has his way, Sky Harbor's newly renovated Terminal 3 will honor one of Arizona's most iconic political figures, Senator John McCain.
In an announcement Thursday, Stanton said, "Senator McCain has given so much of himself to our country, to Arizona and to Phoenix. Giving something back to an American hero, a former naval aviator, and a 30-year member of the U.S. Senate is the least we can do."
Soon, @PHXSkyHarbor's Terminal 3 will have a new look and, hopefully, a new name.
Naming this gateway into our state in honor of @SenJohnMcCain — an aviator and true American hero who's given so much to our nation — couldn't be more fitting. https://t.co/AllPBPfEIK pic.twitter.com/m1WchyDc89

"Sky Harbor Airport is one of America's busiest airports and is a point of pride for Phoenicians. As such, there is no greater honor the city can bestow than to name one of its terminals after a community leader," added Councilman Jim Waring.
Terminal 3 is in the middle of a $590 million renovation that includes a remodeled concourse, new shops, restaurants and energy efficient lighting.
Stanton's proposal is pending a full City Council vote scheduled to take place in late November.
