Police have arrested a suspect after a man was found dead inside a Phoenix business on Thursday afternoon.

According to Phoenix police officials, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business near 30th Avenue and McDowell Road shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

After they arrived, police said they found 26-year-old Anthony Navarro shot inside. Fire personnel declared Navarro dead at the scene.

On Friday, ABC15 learned a suspect was arrested in the area of 45th and Glendale avenues. Police served a search warrant at a house in the area, and a 36-year-old man was taken into custody.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released, but Phoenix police say that Navarro and the suspect knew each other and were in an altercation leading up to the shooting.

Friends and customers who knew Navarro as "Tony" gathered for a memorial service outside the barber shop where he worked Friday evening. At one point around 30 people were gathered there.

Julio Rodriguez was a close friend of Navarro's and had known him since the 6th grade.

“He was a great guy, he looked out for us, he looked out for all the younger kids on the block — in the neighborhood and stuff like that,” Rodriguez said. "I can hear him laugh bro, like, it’s sad, man cause he was so young, and he didn’t deserve to die.”

Another friend, Robert Gutierrez, says he knew Navarro from the shop for the past five years.

“He’s a family man. He came in here, opened up shop to provide for his family. What happened to him — that wasn’t the way to go for him,” Gutierrez said. “He’s gonna be missed by a lot of people.”
