The lone survivor of the 20-member Granite Mountain Hotshot crew killed in the 2013 Yarnell Hill fire in Prescott joined a push to restore the meaning of Memorial Day.
Brendan McDonough led the "Carry to Load" rally as it came through Phoenix Sunday morning. The gathering honored fallen members of the military and first responders.
Those marching in Phoenix gathered near Camelback Mountain and made their way to Chase Field downtown. McDonough said he hopes the effort inspires those with plans on Memorial Day.
"It's not about the sales. It's not about the barbecues," he said. "It's about the family and honoring such great men and women that have given so much for our freedom and our safety."
The tour started in Seattle on April 27th and will end in Dallas on Memorial Day.
