An 86-year-old man has died from health complications after stopping an attempted robbery at his home near Northern and 23rd avenues. Phoenix police are still looking for the man who caused the injuries that led to his death.
On the morning of January 15, the victim Jack, and his wife Patricia were approached by a man who tried to give them a gift card in exchange for $60 to cover part of the value. The couple refused, and the suspect then tried to steal the woman’s purse. Jack stepped in and fought with the man to get the purse, and the suspect ran away.
Days after the incident, Jack complained of pain and was taken to the hospital where doctors discovered he had suffered several broken ribs. His health continued to decline, and unfortunately Jack died of his injuries.
Patricia tells ABC15, Jack was a veteran of the Korean War. The couple had met when Jack was stationed in England. They have three children, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The Phoenix Police Department provided a sketch of the suspect and asks that anyone who has information regarding this incident to contact the Violent Crimes Bureau or Silent Witness.
