Fire rips through abandoned West Valley home

A fire ripped through a home in the West Valley Monday night, and at first firefighters thought someone was inside.

When fire crews arrived, flames and smoke were coming out of the abandoned house near 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Luckily, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. But one neighbor told ABC15 that she thought the flames were going to jump to her home.

“I was inside my house and my sister-in-law knocked on my door and said there’s a fire next door. So, I ran out and took a look and the flames were up there in the sky already,” said Vera Loia, who has been living in the neighborhood since the 1940s.

Fire crews are still trying to determine what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
