A garbage truck went up in flames overnight in west Phoenix.

The truck caught fire around 3 a.m. in the area of 35th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Police say the fire started while the vehicle was traveling down Camelback Road. The driver had to stop in the middle of the road due to the fire.

The worker was able to make it out of the vehicle before the fire spread through the entire truck. The driver was not injured.

An officer said the driver told him the truck was full and may have helped to fuel the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
