A Chandler police officer who was shot in the face by a trespassing suspect last week walked his way out of the hospital on Friday where he will continue his recovering at home.
Officer Joshua Pueblo was escorted out of the hospital in a wheelchair to a crowd of media and fellow police officers. He then got up from his wheelchair to the sound of applause and into a limo.
Pueblo did not speak to the media.
Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan spoke briefly to the media. He thanked the media and community for their support of his officers.
Officer Pueblo had been in the hospital since April 23 when he was shot by a trespassing suspect at a Walmart near Arizona Avenue and Pecos Road.
Another officer, Daniel Colwell, exchanged gunfire with the suspect--killing him--but also suffered a gunshot wound. He was previously released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Mitchel Oakley.
Donation accounts have been set up at Wells Fargo for both officers.
