According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a white car was driving eastbound on Riggs Road when the man clipped a silver Durango that sent his car spinning across the median.
The white car then collided head-on with a black Dodge pick-up that a woman was driving.
In the pick-up, there were four children under the age of 10. All four were transported to hospitals and two were transported with life threatening injuries.
Officials said the female and male drivers were both killed in the collision.
Investigators are trying to determine if seatbelts were used as well as if alcohol or speed were a factor.
"Because of the scene that we have, I can tell you right now that we are looking at speed," MCSO Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said. "Speed is definitely going to be a factor, a big contributor to what happened today."
Riggs Road was closed down at Sun Lakes Boulevard, but was reopened around midnight.
