A man has been arrested after police were hunting for someone who allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl at a community park in Gilbert over the weekend.

The Gilbert Police Department said 46-year-old Carl Wayne Price was arrested by police on Wednesday afternoon around 5:23 p.m.

Police said Price is a registered sex offender who recently moved to Gilbert. Police said the man lives in "close proximity" to the park where the girl was assaulted. Officers also served a search warrant on Price's home Wednesday night.

On Saturday, a 14-year-old girl told police that she was at a Cooley Station North neighborhood park near Recker and Williams Field roads, when the incident happened around 7:40 a.m.

The girl said the man tried to sexually assault her while she was sitting in the park. The man fled the scene on foot afterwards.

Price faces charges of attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and aggravated assault. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
