The Mesa Fire and Medical Department says a two-year-old girl died after she was found face down in a Mesa pool Thursday.
The incident happened near Sossaman and Southern Avenue.
Mesa Police say the child was identified as Aria Herrera.
Investigators believe a new puppy may have compromised the mesh fence around the pool and Aria followed the dog into the area when the drowning occurred.
She was found by her foster father about 10 minutes after she had not been seen.
Police say it appears to be accidental, and that no foul play was involved. No criminal charges are pending.
