Missing mail in one East Valley community led police to a man who was stealing from neighborhood collection boxes.

The US Postal Service uncovered mail was going missing from mail boxes  around November of last year. In several cases, the mail was being taken out of locked neighborhood collection boxes.

Court documents say Tanner Henry cashed a $484 dollar check after stealing mail from one of this victims, which is how police were able to identify him and track him down.

Police went to Henry's home and went through his trash. Inside they found mail belonging to many of his victims. Inside his home they found counterfeit checks, credit and debit cards, and other items related to identity theft.

After going to Henry's house, ABC15 found out the man is still in jail. His roommate tells us he had no idea Henry was committing crimes right under his nose.

"I thought he was working because he pays rent or was, but apparently he was doing that,” Ronald Talley, the suspect’s roommate, said.

Henry was previously released from the Arizona Department of Correction in 2014. He was serving time from armed robbery and drug charges.

According to the postal inspector’s website, people need to check their mail every day so they don’t fall victim to mail and identity theft.
