The city of Tempe is continuing its annual tradition on Monday of placing nearly 3,000 flags to honor the lives lost in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The city and the Exchange Club of Tempe put together the Healing Field tribute each year.

Volunteers began putting the flag installation together on Friday and a ceremony will be held Monday morning including the presentation of colors, music, prayer and reading of the names of first responders who died that day.

That will be followed by a 7 p.m. candlelight vigil.
