Huss Brewing Company acquires Papago Brewing brand

Huss Brewing Company in Tempe announced Wednesday that it has acquired Papago Brewing Company in Scottsdale.

Leah and Jeff Huss founded Huss Brewing Co. in 2013, and it is considered one of the fastest growing breweries in the Valley.

Papago Brewing Co. was founded in 2001 as a homebrew supply store and tasting room. It has since expanded its beer and food menu to become a neighborhood staple and is most well-known for its Orange Blossom mandarin wheat beer.

"Most important," says Huss co-owner Leah Huss, "acquiring the Papago beer brands ensures that the brand will stay in Arizona and not be bought by an out of state or international conglomerate."

Ron Kloth, President of Papago Brewing says the deal will continue to allow Papago to expand, as Huss is well equipped to help support the growing Papago brand.

“Papago first started out as a small homebrew shop, but as the craft beer market has grown, and the beer production side of our business has also grown dramatically, we realized Huss Brewing can support the Papago brand in the Arizona market better than we could, and this deal is just the next logical step for us to go in order to continue our business evolution," Kloth said.

Huss Brewing Company had already helped brew much of Papago's beer because of spacing issues at their Scottsdale location.

The deal technically only incudes Papago's beers and brand name, and does not include the sale of Papago's Scottsdale and McDowell roads business. That location will continue operation as normal.

Huss also recently announced it would be opening a new taproom at Uptown Plaza in Phoenix by the end of 2016.

Huss cans its own beers on site weekly, and is best known for its Scottsdale Blonde Kolsch, Magic in the Ivy Pale Ale, That’ll Do IPA and Koffee Kolsch.
