Tempe police are investigating after a woman was stabbed on the light rail Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the area of Washington Street and Priest Drive around noon after a 40-year-old woman was stabbed by a man multiple times, a police spokesperson said.
The woman was initially reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries, however, officials later said her condition was upgraded to stable.
Immediately after the stabbing police were unable to locate the suspect who was described as being a black man in his early 50s wearing dark-colored clothing.
He has since been taken into custody but police haven't released his name, officials said.
Authorities believe the pair know each other, but information about the nature of their relationship wasn't immediately available.
An investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses are urged to call Tempe Police at 480-350-8311.
