A crash that killed one person and sent at least one other to the hospital has closed an intersection in the west Valley.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded Sunday evening to Jackrabbit Trail and Yuma Road near Buckeye.
Pictures from the scene showed a car that had been rear-ended by a pickup truck.
Deputies said two people in the car, a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s, were taken to the hospital. Authorities said the man, who was driving, suffered serious injuries but was in stable condition. The woman was pronounced dead after arriving, according to Deputy Joaquin Enriquez.
Law enforcement said the driver of the pickup was a man in his 20s, and was under investigation for possible impairment at the time of the crash. Officials did not immediately provide an update on his condition.
The intersection remained closed as of 8 p.m. Officials did not have an estimate of when it would reopen and asked drivers to avoid the area.
