A classmate who provided the handgun used in the recent murder-suicide of two 15-year-old girls at Glendale's Independence High School could be facing a felony charge, police said Friday.
They said the 15-year-old boy, whose name hasn't been released, could face a felony charge for giving a firearm to a minor.
The charge won't be submitted until all the evidence is examined, according to police, who added that the families of both girls don't want to prosecute the boy.
Copies of the heavily redacted, handwritten suicide note were released Friday as part of an 87-page police report on the Feb. 12 deaths.
One of the girls wrote that the other wanted to end their relationship and the boy who provided the gun shouldn't be charged because she lied to get the weapon from him.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review the boy's involvement in the matter.
Police said the teen removed a handgun from his home without the permission or knowledge of his parents.
One of the girls approached the boy on Feb. 11, telling him she needed a gun for protection but promised to return it.
The girls' bodies were discovered around 8 a.m. the following day near the school cafeteria.
Each had been shot once and declared dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered a weapon found near the bodies and suicide note written by one of the girls. Police have refused to release the girls' names, citing their age.
