Glendale police have submitted charges after a dog died on a patio.

Officials announced on Thursday afternoon that 28-year-old Adrian Gonzalez was arrested for felony animal cruelty.

According to Glendale police, officials developed probable cause to charge Gonzalez with animal cruelty.

On June 5, officers responded to an apartment complex near 61st Avenue and Northern to conduct an animal welfare check. Police could hear a dog in distress outside of a third-story apartment unit.

Police called firefighters to come with a ladder to get the dog, but the animal died before first responders could get to it, authorities said. The dog is believed to be a Labrador mix puppy, according to Glendale police.

The Glendale Police Department recommends pet owners follow these tips:

  • Keep all animals indoors.
  • Provide plenty of cool water to all animals, whether they're inside or outside.
  • Do not chain your pet up.
  • Do not leave an animal inside a car.

If you see a pet in distress, contact the Arizona Humane Society emergency line at 602-997-7575 (Extension 2073) or your local police department.
