Glendale police have arrested three teens in the shooting death of 18-year-old Brenner Anderson, officials said Tuesday.
According to police, Salem Ornelas, Talmontrai Taylor, both 18 years old, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested Friday and charged with murder. Ornelas and Taylor refused a request for a jailhouse interview.
Investigators, who tracked down the suspects via social media, said Anderson met up with the girl to sell marijuana to her on June 29. When he arrived to the area of 43rd and Glendale avenues for the exchange, he was robbed and shot, police said.
Brenner was taken to a hospital by a friend, where he later died.
“Nobody wants to bury their child,” Anderson’s mother, Haylee Anderson, said.
Haylee said that she knew her son, known as Justin, sold drugs, and that she tried to stop him.
“I told him all the time [that] he was going to meet somebody who was going to be a bad person,” she said. “I warned him… that it could end up like this."
Justin was shot in the head and was brain-dead when his mother arrived at the hospital, she said. She held her son's hand as he lay dying and told him that she loved him and would never forget him.
“I hope justice is served,” she said.
