Glendale police are looking for a man who reportedly sexually assaulted a woman under a park bridge on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the area of 91st Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 6 a.m. on Sept. 25, according to police.

The female victim told police a man drove by her several times before parking and following her on foot.

"She said as she kept turning around to look that the male would hide behind objects--a tree, a trashcan--and so it really started to concern her," according to Glendale police Sgt. Scott Waite.

The suspect confronted the victim, grabbed her by the hair and pulled her under a nearby bridge. Police say the suspect pointed a handgun at her and sexually assaulted her.

The victim described the suspect as a white man around 55 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 145 pounds. He had a large, bushy white mustache but had a bald head. Police said the suspect's actions indicate he went out with the intent of committing a crime.

"He was definitely searching the area. He was looking around for a victim, which is concerning that he could be someone local still in the area, or that he's not local and somewhere in the Valley looking for females to prey on," Sgt. Waite said.

The suspect was driving a newer model red, four-door sedan.

Police are asking for anyone who may have information in connection with the case to 623-930-3000.
