The top education official in the state has endorsed the Republican nominee for president.

In a statement Friday afternoon, Arizona Superintendent for Public Instruction Diane Douglas gave her endorsement to Donald Trump for the presidency.

"Mr. Trump shares my belief that the federal government's role in education needs to be reduced rather than expanded," she said in a news release.

Douglas joins other prominent Arizona politicians, including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and state Treasurer Jeff DeWit, who have also endorsed Trump.
