The future of health insurance for thousands of children in Arizona is at risk.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is set to expire this Saturday.

KidsCare is Arizona's version of the CHIP. It provides coverage to children whose families don’t qualify for Medicaid and their parents’ employer(s) don’t offer health insurance.

Across the country, CHIP provides coverage to nearly nine million children, including more than 22,000 in Arizona.

According to a Kaiser Family Foundation report, Arizona's KidsCare program could run out of funding by the end of 2017.

Two senators introduced a bipartisan bill to extend CHIP by 5 years but there hasn't been much movement on the bill.

The deadline is September 30, 2017.
