A suspect was shot and killed during an attempted robbery of an armored car near the Hon-Dah Casino on Monday morning.

According to the FBI, an armored car was making a courier stop in front of the casino in Pinetop around 10 a.m. when a man approached the cash carrier.

Authorities say the suspect sprayed the cash carrier with a chemical irritant.

The cash carrier then drew her weapon and fired, hitting the suspect and killing him, according to the FBI.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Pinetop Police Department, and the Navajo County Sheriff's Office are aiding in the investigation.

The cash carrier was treated on scene and is expected to be OK, the FBI said.
