Police say a body was pulled from a drainage area in Tolleson Thursday morning.
A state employee doing maintenance in the area of 95th Lane and McDowell Road found a man in the drainage area around 8 a.m., officials said.
According to a Tolleson police spokesperson, the 41-year-old victim is believed to be homeless and previously had contact with officers in 2012.
It's believed that the man may have gone into the water retention basin to set up camp because there are large trees in the area, a police spokesperson said.
It's unknown how long the victim had been dead, or when he died. Authorities are still trying to get in contact with his next of kin.
An autopsy is underway but based on the initial investigation police do not believe foul play was involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
