It sure was nice of New Mexico State to spot the Arizona State Sun Devils a point before the game even began.
The visiting Aggies were assessed a technical foul before tip-off in Tempe on Saturday night -- not for fighting or mouthing off to an official, but for a simple, avoidable clerical error.
It seems NMSU failed to submit its lineup card to officials on time, resulting in a technical foul. As a result, the Sun Devils were awarded a free throw before the start of the game.

Junior guard Shannon Evans II made the shot, giving ASU a very early 1-0 advantage.

UPDATE: ASU coach Bobby Hurley returned the favor and then some, as he was assessed two technical fouls and ejected in the second half of Saturday's game. The Devils went on to lose 81-70 to fall to 6-5 on the season.
