In his book released Tuesday, Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians revealed he had surgery to remove a small cancerous spot on his kidney after the 2016 NFL season.

In "The Quarterback Whisperer," the No. 3 bestselling football book on Amazon.com, Arians said he learned about the spot known as renal cell carcinoma in December. He went on to coach the rest of the season before undergoing surgery to remove a small portion of his kidney two months later.

Arians had a number of health concerns last season. He was hospitalized twice, for complications from diverticulitis in August and for chest pain following a game at the Minnesota Vikings in November. He underwent prostate cancer surgery in 2007.

"Now I feel great. My energy has returned. I'm told I'm cancer-free again. I'm ready for at least one more season of NFL football -- maybe more," Arians wrote in his book, according to AZCardinals.com.

"Moving forward, I want to be a beacon of hope for others struggling with cancer. My fight is their fight. I'm not coaching for myself in 2017; I'm coaching for everyone who's dealing with cancer. This is my charge."
