New Orleans native and Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu said on Twitter that he knows the man who shot and killed former NFL star Will Smith in his hometown Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, 28-year-old Cardell Hayes was arrested and booked for second-degree murder in the death of Smith, part of a road rage incident in which Smith's wife was also shot, at New Orleans' Lower Garden District.
Shortly after Hayes was booked, Mathieu, who played collegiately at Louisiana State, tweeted the following.
I know that dude, he been a hating ass coward.... Never knew he'd grow up to be a killer tho.... May you get what you deserve coward

Also on Sunday, Mathieu delivered a passionate series of tweets about a number of things he believes need to change in order to break this cycle of violence.
Until y'all get them crooks out of office and until y'all give these kids something constructive to do, the violence will continue to grow!!
